B425 Ugarit and the Bible

Purpose: The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the literature of the ancient society of Ugarit and the significance of this material for Biblical Studies.

Textbooks: The book, Stories from Ancient Canaan by Michael David Coogan, is available from Westminster/John Knox Press and is the primary source book for this course. The student will also be required to read Cyrus Gordon's book, The Ancient Near East. Order these books from Amazon.com.

Time Requirements: B425 Ugarit and the Bible is designed to be completed in one academic quarter.

Course Requirements: Assignments will be made at the beginning of the course and a final exam will be given at the end of the course. The student will be responsible for doing these assignments and integrating all the material they have when the final exam is taken. The student will be expected to read the lectures and the assigned readings, and complete a written assignment.
