Syllabus

1. The purpose of this study is to familiarize the student with the book of Ecclesiastes and its purpose.

2. To accomplish this purpose the student will be required to read the book of Ecclesiastes and the comments of the professor as well as one commentary on the book. At the end of the course the student will be asked to write a 5 page paper on the meaning and theology of Ecclesiastes.

3. Texts: The student will need to read Ecclesiastes in his or her own Bible as well as the translation (ASV) found in the course itself.

The student will also need to read the commentary on Ecclesiastes by R.B.Y. Scott in the Anchor Bible series: R.B.Y. Scott. The Anchor Bible: Proverbs, Ecclesiastes. vol. 18. Garden City: Doubleday & Company, 1965.
